The Department of Applied Social Studies offers seven Bachelor trainings. Four of them are Bachelors of Social Work and the remaining two are Bachelors of Socio-educational Care Work. In each of the Bachelors the focus is on practice: students will get the opportunity to apply their skills during various internships. Each year is divided into four terms. One term equals six weeks, including two weeks of assessment.
Professional Bachelor of Social Work
Arts and Culture Mediation
Your profile:
You have a passion for art and are eager to think of ways to bring what the cultural scene has to offer to the public and vice versa.
Your training:
The focus of your training will be on learning about art and culture as well as on acquiring the necessary coordination and organizing skills.
Your future:
You will probably find a job at a library, at festivals, at museums, in theaters, in social- artistic projects, etc.
Community Educational and Cultural Work
Your profile:
You are a creative and enthusiastic person that enjoys participating in various types of social projects and events.
Your training:
You will acquire insight in how to move people in order to animate or to educate.
Your future:
You will probably find a job in development projects, youth centers, animation, sociological training centers, etc.
Social Work and Human Resources
Your profile:
The labor market fascinates you and you are eager to help others find a job that fits their profile.
Your training:
You will be taught the basics of sociology, psychology and law. You will acquire the skills that are necessary to coach clients.
Your future:
You will probably find a job at the HR department of a company or organization, at an interim office, an outplacement office, an education center, etc.
Social Work and Legal Aid
Your profile:
You are eager to help people understand the procedures, regulations and facilities of the Belgian social and legal system.
Your training:
You will be taught the basics of sociology and psychology and you will learn all about our legal system. Furthermore, you will acquire the necessary skills to negotiate and professionally advise clients.
Your future:
You will probably find a job at a rent tribunal, a court house, social services, a child allowance department, etc.
Social Work
Your profile:
You are a real people’s person. You are eager to help people solve the questions or problems they are struggling with.
Your training:
You will be taught the basics of sociology and psychology and you will learn all about our social security system. You will acquire the necessary communicative skills to negotiate and coach clients.
Your future:
You will probably find a job at social services, a court house, hospitals and relief centers, in child welfare, etc.
Professional Bachelor of Socio-educational Care Work
Applied Juvenile Criminology
Your profile:
You are eager to help young offenders keep out of trouble and you want to help them reintegrate in society.
Your training:
You will get insight in the psyche of children and adolescents and you will acquire the necessary skills to coach and educate them.
Your future:
Your will probably find a job at a youth center, a psychiatric ward, a detention center, etc.
Socio-educational Care Work
Your profile:
You genuinely care about people. You are aware of the importance of equal opportunities for everyone.
Your training:
You will acquire the necessary skills to coach people in challenging situations with regard to education and general development.
Your future:
You will probably find a job coaching children, adolescents and adults who are struggling with a behavioral disturbance or a handicap and families who are dealing with educational issues.
