Flow Cytometry

Micro-credential

  • This micro-credential is part of the Advanced Therapies Training Program (ATTP).
  • You will learn the theoretical principles of flow cytometry, work with panel design, and take your first steps in analysing flow cytometry data.
  • During practical sessions at the flow cytometer, you will apply the theory immediately. Extra attention is given to troubleshooting.
  • This micro-credential has been developed in collaboration with experts from the University of Antwerp.
  • The language of instruction is English.

What does the course look like?

  • This micro-credential is worth 5 credits.
  • You will attend 4 consecutive full days of teaching.
  • The language of instruction is English.
  • If you pass, you will receive a provisional degree certificate.

Programme

  • These course dates belong to a previous edition, but offer you an idea of the structure and trajectory of the programme. New dates will follow soon.
  • Monday 15/9/2025: Basic principles of flow cytometry and theoretical sessions on compensation, spill-over, and panel design
  • Tuesday 16/9/2025:
    • Theoretical sessions on good practices, sample preparation, and data analysis
    • Practical lab session on panel design
  • Wednesday 17/9/2025: Practical lab session on multicolour panel and troubleshooting
  • Thursday 18/9/2025: Wrap-up and assessment
Having experienced first-hand how overwhelming flow cytometry can be at the start, I aim to guide participants to grasp the core concepts more quickly. We distil complex material to its essence, with a strong focus on practical skills, logic, and insight. Professionals gain not only the tools to achieve better results but also a broader comprehension of how and why flow cytometry works. This way, they return to the lab with greater confidence and curiosity.

For whom?

  • This micro-credential is for future operators in the production and quality control of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).
  • You are already employed* in the biomedical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or (bio)chemical sector. You want to broaden your expertise and tailor it to the specific needs of cell and gene therapies.
  • You have recently graduated* as a bachelor or master in biomedical laboratory technology, pharmaceutical laboratory technology or (bio)chemistry.

No prior knowledge of flow cytometry is required.

I would definitely recommend this course, as it provides a much broader theoretical perspective than what we experience on-site. On the job, the focus is primarily on the practical aspects from start to finish.
