- We develop insights and strategies for interprofessional simulation education for healthcare degree programmes.
- Objective:
- Students from different healthcare disciplines learn to collaborate and communicate to achieve a common goal aimed at providing high-quality care.
- Optimisation of existing processes between the degree programmes involved.
- Verify the learning effect in the medium term.
- Develop a toolbox with guidelines for simulation education.
- Organise training for professionals.

In 2010, the World Health Organisation (WHO) prioritised interprofessional education due to the growing challenges faced by the healthcare sector. The current healthcare system lacks solutions for the intricate and ambiguous issues faced by patients. The care provided is fragmented due to healthcare providers working in silos, leading to a decline in care quality and safety.
The organisation of higher education is also highly fragmented, where students in care-related professions (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, etc.) follow a degree programme in their specific discipline without learning to collaborate with other disciplines. The focus on interprofessional education is crucial for the training of future healthcare providers.
Methods
The proposed research consists of a prospective cohort study, integrating high fidelity simulation training as an intervention, within the nursing (KdG) and medicine (UA) degree programmes. Validated measurement tools will be used to assess the impact of interprofessional simulation education on student competencies, behaviour, and attitude.
Output
- Optimisation of existing processes between the degree programmes involved.
- Verify the learning effect in the medium term.
- Develop a toolbox with guidelines for simulation education.
- Organise training for professionals.
