Who are we?
KdG University of Applied Sciences and arts, has 9 campuses, 38 bachelor degree programmes, more than 100 further education opportunities, 6 research centres, about 14500 students and 1599 employees.
We want to be an employer who enables you to feel good.
Are you looking for a job with a positive impact on society and a context where collaboration and inclusion are key? Then you might be the perfect person to join the Advanced Master of Research in Art and Design of Sint Lucas Antwerp team!
What is your role?
As an assistant, you will teach in the Advanced Master of Research in Art and Design in a social-political context. The one-year program offers time and space to a small group of artists and designers to do practice-led research without the requirement of any particular final format such as an exhibition. The focus is on artistic research, individual and collective development and research exchange. The program is aligned to each participant’s work rhythm and caters for specific interests by inviting a diversity of voices from a variety of fields that can cater to the individual research interests within the student body. We operate within a specific methodology of shared responsibility for each other’s research, learning, and well-being, following a pedagogy of intersectional criticality and care.
- Concrete assignment: As the Critical Theory module tutor, you will be responsible for introducing the participants of the Advanced Master to theoretical positions that can scaffold and challenge their research process, and support them towards articulating a situated theoretical framework specific to their research and social-political context/s.
- With the support of your Advanced Master colleagues, you will develop self-reflective collective and peer-to-peer-exchange methods that enable an accessible and meaningful learning environment for participants. You will be part of the Advanced Master tutor team that works closely together to develop the program modules in Writing, Research Methodology, Share Research and Critical Theory.
- You are culturally aware and you try to find approaches to reflect the existing diversity within the program and enhance this diversity in the study environment.
- You work collectively and design the curriculum and methodology of the program together with your colleagues. You collaborate with them for assignments, planning and evaluation.
- You invest in your professional and pedagogical development and share your knowledge and network with Sint Lucas Antwerpen.
- You are engaged with artistic research and the landscape of critical theory and have a network of peers active in these contexts.
- You work at campus Sint Lucas Antwerpen. You report to the Program leader of the Advanced Master.
- Petra Van Brabandt, Programme Manager of the Advanced Master, is your supervisor.
What is your profile?
- You are dextrous with critical, feminist and decolonial theory and you practice collective and peer-to-peer learning methodologies with accessibility at the centre.
- You are familiar with a diversity of artistic research practices and their social-political contexts. You have built an extensive network of researchers, research spaces, publishers and organizations.
- You are a team player who encourages cooperation. Your enthusiasm and empathy have a motivating and inspiring effect on students and colleagues.
- You have strong networking skills. You are communicative and pro-active.
- You are good at planning and setting priorities, and can be responsive to change when required.
- You are willing to use ICT-tools and applications to innovate and facilitate your teaching and communicate with students and colleagues.
In addition, you have a PhD and/or a Master’s degree, preferably art history, art theory, curatorial studies, cultural studies, practice-based art or design. An active practice in a social-political context is a necessary condition. A pedagogical degree is not a must, but a warm heart for the participants and their future is essential.
This English-language course requires an ERK B1 level. You can prove this via your diploma issued for a degree taught in English, or a language certificate or inform us if you are prepared to obtain this before the effective start of your teaching assignment (no worries if you can’t prove this yet, we will help you on your way with all the necessary info).
